History of the Club Podcast
The Camogie & Hurling Club have recently secured grant funding to record the history of the Club. This will be achieved by recording 10 podcasts. We have identified 9/10 areas regarding the Club which we intend to cover such as History & Foundation of the Club, Hurling through the Decades, Camogie, Facilities & Fundraising, Supporters etc.
Team Leaders have been appointed to oversee each topic. If anyone is interested in participating in this project, please contact Mary Sweeney 087 2048057 as soon as possible.
The whole exercise has to be completed within the next week to 10 days as we were given a limited time to avail of this opportunity.
Table Quiz
There will be a quiz in Jordan’s, Ballinderreen to launch and fundraise for Ballinderreen Community Alert on Friday, the 12th of July, starting at 8.30 p.m. Tables of 4, €40.00 per table. There will be a raffle and spot prizes on the night.
Update on Proposed Clubhouse Building
Over the past number of years, as all of our members and supporters know Ballinderreen Hurling and Camogie Club are on a journey to build a new clubhouse complete with a gym, a multifunctional exercise room, and an indoor pitch viewing area. We have successfully been awarded €150,000 in Sports Capital Grants and we have another €300,000 in savings, thanks in no small part to our amazing community.
As the clubhouse building has not yet started, we are taking this opportunity to give an update to you, our members, and community.
In order to complete the project we will need to borrow approximately €300,000. The yearly repayments on this loan will be over €20,000. Post Covid, we knew we would not be able to meet these loan repayments with our regular club income. We then realized we needed a new source of revenue within the club which would enable us to repay a future loan. We came up with the idea of The South Galway Bay Music Festival which started in 2022 with a modest profit. We made a decision to continue the festival in 2023 and we were very happy with its success. If we can replicate the 2023 festival profit into future years, we will be able to service the yearly loan repayments and we would have the loan repaid within 8-10 years (or quicker depending on the future success of the festival).
Given the importance of the future success of the festival towards our infrastructure enhancements and improvements, when the 2024 festival is finished we will be in a better position to decide if we can afford the clubhouse loan and if our festival is a viable yearly event that will help us with other future projects.
We look forward to seeing you at the festival from 26th - 28th July. Many of you will be volunteering at the festival and we would not be able to run the festival without the work of you, our club members, and community.
Please spread the word and buy your tickets on Eventbrite.
Many thanks
