U-17 C Hurling Championship Final Replay

Ballinderreen 5-18 Vs Abbeyknockmoy 3-6

After salvaging a draw in a storm 2 weeks ago, the minor team resolved to leave no doubt that they were worthy champions on Saturday. As the rain cleared to leave the conditions as perfect as could be expected in October, this day was going to be different.

The team and management learned lessons from the first game and made changes based on the experience. Ross O'Dowd replaced Luke Guillot before the game and started in midfield. Louie Garrard and Eoin O'Regan moved into the full forward line while Luke Molloy and David McDonough started in the half forward line.

Jack Hession scored a goal in the first minute followed by a pointed free by Luke Molloy and the team never looked back. Luke Molloy (free) and David McDonough added points to leave the score 1-3 to 0-0 after 11 minutes.

The Ballinderreen defence was giving a clinic in aggressive but disciplined defending, refusing to concede frees in scoring positions while tackling ferociously. The lead could have been greater at this point but Mark Joyce denied Jack Hession another goal opportunity with a fine save.

Cian Considine opened Abbeyknockmoy's account in the 15th minute with a point from the right wing.

Ballinderreen responded when Luke Molloy gathered a quick sideline cut and sent the ball towards Louie Garrard in the full forward line. Harry McTigue pounced on the breaking ball and blasted the ball to the net.

Luke Molloy and Matthew Fox traded points before Jack Hession cut through the Abbeyknockmoy defence. He drew the final defender before releasing Harry McTigue to score his second goal which left the score at 3-6 to 0-2 after 25 minutes.

Luke Molloy (2) and Jack Hession added to Ballinderreen's lead before Cody Morrissey tapped over a free. Cathal Leyne fended off a shot which bounced wickedly off the surface before the resulting 65 was sent over the bar. Sean Trowell blew the halftime whistle with Ballinderreen leading 3-9 to 0-4.

The second half started with a flurry of scores. A long ball from Ross O'Dowd found Eoin O'Regan who rounded Mark Joyce to score Ballinderreen's 4th goal.

Adam Fahy replied with a point from midfield before Eanna McWalter sent a low ball into the full forward line. Eoin O'Regan displayed a beautiful first touch before splitting the posts.

Matthew Fox showed the danger he presented when he scored Abbeyknockmoy's first goal in the 35th minute to leave the score 4-10 to 1-5.

The Ballinderreen defence tightened and Abbeyknockmoy would not score again for the next 15 minutes. Liam Bailey, Jamie Cooke and Sean Hession were introduced replacing Harry McTigue, Louie Garrard and Eoin O'Regan. Points were added by Luke Molloy (0-3, 2 frees), Tom Monaghan (65) and Jamie Cooke.

Matthew Fox broke Abbeyknockmoy’s scoring drought when he fired home his second goal in the 50th minute. Sean Hession replied immediately with a point but Abbeyknockmoy scored another goal to bring the score to 4-16 to 3-5 after 51 minutes.

Abbeyknockmoy sensed panic with the concession of 2 goals in rapid succession and threw caution to the wind in the attempt to score another.

Luke Molloy won a free in his own half in the 55th minute and Tom Monaghan launched it into Abbeyknockmoy's square. The ball was batted away from goal but only as far as David McDonough who shook off his marker to score the final goal of the game.

Shane Talty and Luke Guillot were introduced for Ross O’Dowd and an injured Tom Monaghan. Sean Hession scored 2 points to Abbeyknockmoy's solitary score before the referee blew the final whistle with the score of 5-18 to 3-6.

Luke Molloy was presented with the man of the match award.

David McDonough accepted the cup as captain on behalf of the team and the celebrations could begin.

Congratulations to the team and management on their fantastic achievement this year.

Ballinderreen 4-07 Vs Carnmore 0-13

Congratulations to the players, coaches, and management on a hard-fought game under the lights in Claregalway. It was a great achievement for the entire team, whose hard work and determination carried them through to the end. This experience will greatly benefit the team, particularly the younger players, and we look forward to building on this success next year.

A fun way to connect & promote the sport of Camogie among women of all ages and abilities.

Sessions will take place on Tuesday evenings from 8-9pm in the Astro in Ballinderreen.

The Camogie Club’s AGM will take place on 21/11/24 in the school hall at 8.30pm.

If anyone is interested in joining the committee or would like to understand how you can help your club, please get in touch with any of the present committee to discuss.

Only 2024 members will be allowed to propose or second a proposal and vote on a proposal.

Finally, we encourage all members to attend the AGM so that you may exercise your right to a say in how your club is run. We also invite any prospective club members to attend.

Congratulations to the Galway Masters as they won their game against Limerick on Saturday.

Best of luck to the team as they take on Cork in the Gaelic Masters Association Challenge Cup Final on Saturday, 19th of October, in Borris-Ileigh GAA Club at 2pm.

Calling all GAA, LGFA and Camogie Association Members Aged 12 - 21

The GAA Youth Forum will be held in Croke Park on Saturday November 2nd, 2024.

The theme of the forum is ‘’Strengthening the youth voice for the next 140 years”.

The GAA Youth Forum will offer a range of interactive workshops and speakers with topics to be addressed including:

- Decision Making Structures

- Communications

- Coach Behaviour & Education

- Addressing Discrimination & Accessibility

- Development & Volunteering Opportunities

The flagship session of the GAA Youth Forum will be the Youth Congress which will see attendees voting on a set of proposals generated throughout the day.

The results of this Congress will be taken forward as recommendations by representatives of the GAA Youth Committee to GAA Congress 2025.

A maximum of 300 delegates between from 12 – 21 years old representing GAA, LGFA and Camogie clubs will attend so don’t wait to express your interest.
